As the African Cup of Nations kicks off on January 9, you might be wondering “Who will win AFCON 2022”? You might even have some options in mind already.
EGYPT
The Egyptian team is one of the favorites to win this tournament led by Liverpool foward, Mo Salah.
Salah has been on fire for Liverpool scoring 16 goals so far in the Premier League.
He and Mohamed Elneny of Arsenal will be leading the team in Group D against Nigeria, Guinea Bussau and Sudan.
SENEGAL
Sengal has one of the strongest teams in this tournament with Sadio mane upfront and Eduard Mendy in goal.
Mane is a force to reckon with and also an important figure in the team. There are others like Idrissa Gana Gueye of PSG, Ismaila Sarr of Watford among others.
ALGERIA
With Riyahd Mahrez leading the team this time around, expect a lot of the play to go through him. The Desert Foxes have won the tournament twice be looking to win it a third time.
Algeria will be looking to make it out of the group against Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Equitorial Guinea.
NIGERIA
The Super Eagles are also favorites with the number of talents the team is going with to Cameroon.
However, with the recent changes in the backroom staff, the team might not be as strong as it is being projected.
That should not take away from the talent on the pitch with the likes of Ndidi, Iheanacho, Onyekuru among others.
IVORY COAST
With attacking force like Wilfred Zaha, Nicolas Pepe and Sébastien Haller, you know this team is quality.
The Elephants have been Champions twice and will be looking to win a third this time around.
It will be an uphill battle as they are in the sane group with Algeria, Sierra Leone and Equitorial Guinea.
There are other teams that have the potential to win the competition and there could also be upsets.
However, these teams are top contenders as they have the capacity and talent to pull it off.
