Olamide is a Nigerian musician because we cannot refer to him as a rapper anymore after his latest album UY Scuti was more of a pop/reggae album than a rap album.
Most of his fans did not expect that album to sound like that even though the single off the album “Rock” already showed that Olamide was going to give us something different. It really showed that Olamide has range and that he can actually be versatile.
From a personal point of view, the album is a hit and the work that was done into arranging and mixing it is so evident that you would know that this is actually a quality album.
The features on the album brought their A-game and they are really the ones that brought the spice to the album. From the likes of Jaywillz to Layydoe and Fave who featured on two songs on the album, you can hear that Olamide went all out to bring these talents, make them comfortable and deliver dope songs.
One thing we must commend Olamide for is his confidence for trying something so audacious. It is something for a singer to try to sing a different genre, but it is a whole other level for a known rapper to give fans something totally different and far from his known style and genre. Not only did he deliver, the body of work is one that can stand toe-to-toe with any pop or Afrobeats album today.
What Olamide did with Carpe Diem is still fresh in the minds of music lovers, for him to now release UY Scuti at a time like this shows that truly “Baddo na baba”.
Many might wonder if Olamide is no longer the “Voice of the streets” or if he is suddenly chasing “international recognition”. I would say Olamide is simply letting fans, rivals and haters know that “Just because I don’t want to do it doesn’t mean I cannot do it, I can do what your favorite can”.

I mean his fans can now boldly say “Olamide can rap and sing, can your favorite singer release a rap album?” That is where the bragging rights come in. We shouldn’t get carried away though, the songs are good but it would take a while be fore we know if the album is a classic and can stand the test of time.

Just 2 days ago, UY Scuti debuts at Number 11 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, number 12 on World albums chart and it just shows how good the album is doing right now.
Songs on the album like Julie, Jailer, Pon Pon and Somebody are definitely people’s favorites already. If you haven’t listened to the album you better go listen to it.
