Nigeria’s Enoch Adegoke qualifies for the 100m finals at the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo after finishing second.
Enoch who has not run under 10 seconds until this competition came second after running 10.0 seconds.
Trayvon Bromell of the USA was the favourite leading to the race but came second alongside Adegoke.
Britain’s Zharnel Hughes won the race after clocking 9.98seconds while Adegoke was given the second place in a photo finish after he and Bromell clocked 10seconds.
Nigeria’s representatives have been clouded by a lot of issues from athletes protesting to Okagbare‘s suspension.
It was a surprise to many Nigerians as Enoch Adegoke qualifies for the 100m finals.
He won the heat under 10seconds which is his personal best as he joins the sub-10 club.
The 21-year-old ran 10.0 seconds to win the National title in June and did not disappoint on the big stage.
He now joins 10 other Nigerians in the sub-10 club as he is now a medal hopeful.
Nigeria has not won any medal so far in the competition with Divine Oduduru also disqualified for a false start.
The Athletics Federation will have to do better as most athletes seem disappointed and down.
The Sports minister, Sunday Dare has also been called out over the way Nigeria’s representatives have been treated.
Adegoke now carries the hopes of over 200million Nigerians at the Olympics as he competes for a medal.
He is currently the fastest man in Nigeria after defeating Usheoritse Itsekiri who is the reigning Nigerian National Sports Festival champion.
