Nigeria’s medal hopeful, Enoch Adegoke suffers injury in the 100m final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The 21-year-old qualified for the final after finishing alongside USA’s Trayvon Bromell in the semi-final.
Adegoke had a photo-finish and was handed the second position ahead of the American.
He is currently Nigeria’s fastest man and had overcome a lot of odds to get there, especially amid the crisis.
Britain’s sprinter had a false start, and as a result was disqualified from the race immediately.
The Nigerian sprinter started the race well but had a muscle pull as he was about to increase his speed.
It was really sad to watch as Adegoke suffers injury and end his appearance like that, but he is still 21 and the future is bright.
Italy’s Jacobs won the gold medal with a time of 9.8 seconds while America’s Kerley and Canada’s De Grasse won silver and bronze respectively.
Remember that Divine Oduduru was disqualified because he also had a false start in the heat.
We can still be proud of him as he is the first Nigerian to make the 100m Olympics final since Davidson Ezenwa in 1996.
Nigeria still has Tobi Amusan representing the country in the Women’s 100m Hurdles final.
Also, Ese Brume will be competing for a medal in the Long Jump final and Nigerians will be hopeful.
Nigerians also criticised the Sports minister after some of the athletes were disqualified in Tokyo over undertesting.
