The Ronaldo effect: Is it affecting Man United?

The Ronaldo effect

The Ronaldo effect is not something that should be condemned, and it is definitely something many fans want on their team.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a goal-machine, he might not be seen in most part of the game but he still delivers.

That is why even at his age, he is in the top 5 goal scorers in the Premier League today.

When Ronaldo joined Manchester United for the second time, it was like a fairytale.

The fans were excited for the return of the player they saw grow to become a global superstar.

It was like a reunion when he joined from Juventus, but the team didn’t really hit the ground running.

A series of lacklustre performance that saw manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fired also had Ronaldo as a target.

Many fans started saying Ronaldo was the reason behind the team’s bad performances and he need to leave.

One thing we should know about Ronaldo is that he is now 37 years old which means he is not as agile as before.

He still has that fear factor and can still cause defences to be shaken no matter how experienced they are.

Right now, Ronaldo has scored 12 goals and his just behind Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Jota.

If not for him, United might be further down the table right now.

For example, if we remove Ronaldo’s hattrick against Spurs then United lose that game.

The fault is not with Ronaldo or the coach, it is simply with the players, they need to know what they have.

Looking at the way the team plays, Ronaldo should be banging in more goals than usual.

He is surrounded by younger players who are faster with the ball at their feet and can always square to him.

The team needs to use Ronaldo to his strength rather than want him to be in the build up play.

The Ronaldo effect is simply knowing his strength and using it to the advantage of the team.

Truly, he needs to be managed because of his age and that showed when he rested ahead of the Spurs game.

He came back and scored 3 goals to help his team to victory.

Even though they are not in the top 4 right now, the addition of Ronaldo is a plus to the club.

He is still passionate and willing to play 90mins no matter the effect on his health.

Will this help the team achieve their goal at the end of the season? It is not likely.

Also, he should not be a part of their rebuilding process.

That being said, there are some younger players that need to leave that team before Ronaldo does.
