The Super Eagles list has been released by coach Austin Eguavoen and a lot of Nigerians are surprised by one name.
After Eguavoen’s performance with the Super Eagles at AFCON 2021, many Nigerians were happy.
Some players couldn’t make the squad for different reasons.
Players like Emmanuel Dennis due to his club, Ighalo because of COVID.
Victor Osimhen also couldn’t make it because of COVID at the last minute.
This gave chance to players like Peter Olayinka, Taiwo Awoniyi and the likes.
However, this new list of players to face Ghana in an important World Cup qualifier is surprising.
The game against Ghana will take place in March and it is a very important one.
On Friday, the NFF released the provisional list of players called up for the game and some names were surprisingly added.
The Super Eagles list had Ighalo, Ademola Lookman and Emmanuel Dennis who were not part of the team at AFCON.
Notable names that were left out were Taiwo Awoniyi, Peter Olayinka, Jamilu Collins, Chidozie Awaziem.
We don’t know Eguavoen’s plans but it doesn’t look like the exclusion is worth it.
Awoniyi had a good outing at AFCON were his runs and presence was a thorn in the flesh of the opponents.
Would Ighalo be as agile as Awoniyi in the frontline?
Also, is there any justification for adding Emmanuel Dennis to the list when we already have Ademola Lookman?
It is not like Dennis would do more than whatChukwueze would do anyway.
Eguavoen knows what he is doing, but he might have a lot of managing to do with this team.
If players like Dennis can dictate when they want to play and when they don’t then it is just a wrong start for him.
Except Ighalo is in the team mainly because he is currently playing in the Middle East because there is no justification for now.
The coach might not need to explain to us why he made the decision, but it doesn’t sit well with many Nigerians right now.
