It was a surprise to see the Super Eagles defeat Egypt in the first Group D game.

The Nigerian National team changed their coach last month after German Gernot Rohr was sacked.

Former Super Eagles player, Austin Eguavoen was appointed to replace him just weeks to the tournament.

With this impressive start, it seems it was the right decision made by the NFF.

The game started quite bright for the Nigerians as Egypt could not find their rhythm.

Mo Salah was not getting a lot of supply and was most of the game isolated upfront.

The Super Eagles defence was quite good and made sure the Liverpool forward had a quiet game.

A wonderful strike by Kelechi Iheanacho in the first half made sure the pressure was not in vain.

After the first half, the Super Eagles had more shots on target and were utilizing the wings.

With such a performance from the players, it is no surprise to see the Super Eagles defeat Egypt even with Salah.

Moses Simon was giving the Egyptians a lot of trouble down the left hand side.

Chukwueze was not really impressive, but he held his own and was also a threat.

The Super Eagles are now top of the table and would be confident ahead of the next game.

Those that have doubted coach Austin Eguavoen will be having second thoughts right now.

Even though he is without players like Ighalo, Dennis and Osimhen, the team still looks solid.

Nigeria are among favorites to win AFCON 2021 especially with their recent display.
