The death of Sound Sultan hit home really hard. This is someone so endearing to everyone, someone that is so multi-talented. There is so much to say about him and learn from him too.
Sound Sultan passed on at the age of 44 after suffering from a rare case of throat cancer. When the news broke, the whole country was in mourning as the news of his sickness has filtered in some weeks ago. His response was “I would tell my story myself”.
I personally hoped for that day, but it was not to be as he passed on untimely. All we can do now is to celebrate him, his impact and his works. May his family have the strength to bear the loss.
Sound Sultan’s talent is so evident for all to see. He was an amazing musician, actor, activist and even a comedian. He has 7 solid albums with songs addressing the government, society, relationship among others. Some of his songs are still relevant today.
One of the songs titled 2010 talked about the state of electricity in the country and till today we are still having epileptic power supply. That is over 10 years and we still have same issues, he put himself in all his songs.
He also delved into acting as he featured in a movie titled “Head Gone” which was directed by his brother BabaDee. He was also in a movie titled “Campus Queen” and most recently was part of Basketmouth’s sitcom “Papa Benji”.
He was born in Jos and married long-time girlfriend Chichi in 2009. They are blessed with 3 children.

Coincidentally, his last post on Instagram was Patoranking’s “Celebrate me” which urged people to celebrate and appreciate people while they are alive.
Thank you for sharing your self, talent and life with us. We are inspired by how you lived, spoke up through your music and even your passion for sports especially basketball. You made us see that as humans we can be many things in one. All we have to do is chase our dream to a reasonable conclusion.
Your songs are evergreen and that is the only way we would get to remember you. All we can do now is celebrate you, your dreams, your impact and most importantly your legacy.
He was buried on July 11, 2021 according to Muslim rites in New Jersey. He was 44 years old, may his soul rest in peace.
