Social media has been a huge part of our lives these days. Now you get most of your news on social media, job vacancies, entertainment and even movements and activism that impacts lives.
However, there has also been an increase in people being rude and saucy all in the name of giving a “savage response”. It all started just for laughs. Influential users on Twitter replying others with comments that are not really related to the tweet but will make others laugh.
Imagine asking a question about a country and someone replying your question with “If you don’t have money to visit, don’t ask”. That is how it starts, very subtle, then everyone seeing that it gets a lot of interactions and responses they now replicate it. It now becomes a way to get popular, at the expense of another person. Most times people don’t even care why you are asking or what impact their comment has on others experience, all they want is that instant fame and attention.
These days being savage is a means to become popular, get on blogs and gain access to the club of “influencers”. It is like being an influencer now tops being human. Just some months ago some influencers were caught to have been paid to tweet in favour of a money launderer that was arrested by Interpol. That shows how these things work and the current space of social media influence.
Let us not get carried away by the number of followers they have, they are also human and they can be used to sway the opinions of most people on social media. Be careful who you believe on social media, always double check all the time and don’t be scared of questioning anything you are not sure of.
A lot of people have been shut up just because their opinion is not acceptable by the public, and they in turn begin to follow the herd. Social media in the end is not always as it seems.
