The Milwaukee Bucks were without their star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo who suffered an injury in game 4.
The coach had to make a huge adjustment and introduce Portis to the first team to replace the 2 time MVP and try to win the game.
The plan worked as the Bucks took the game to the Hawks early on and stamped their authority on the game. The hawks were also without Trae Young due to a twisted ankle in Game 3.
Brook Lopez was the leading scorer for the Bucks scoring 33 points and dominating the paint just like Giannis would have done. It was clear the Hawks had no answer to that adjustment.
The Bucks took Game 5 123-112 and at some point let with as much as 20points in the game. Middleton and Jrue Holiday were also important in the game with their intensity and always creating opportunities for others on the permeter.
Jrue Holiday had 25 points and 13 assists while the leading performer for the Hawks was Bogdanovic with 28 points.
The Bucks will now head to Atlanta on Saturday with the intention to close out the series and head into the finals for the first time since 1974.
With Giannis still doubtful for the Bucks and Trae Young also doubtful for the Hawks, the coaches have a lot of adjustment to make for an opportunity to play against the Phoenix Suns in the finals.
