The Man of God movie on Netflix had a lot of praise and hype when the trailer was released.
I was excited because of the blend of cast and also the producer, Bolanle Austin-Peters, such and amazing producer.
However, before watching it, I had began to hear some not so amazing reviews about it.
Due to my love for the producer, I decided to watch it anyway. I wasn’t even thinking of writing a review.
The movie had a good storyline, and it is something that we could even say is possible in our world.
But, there were a lot of loopholes and inconsistencies in the movie altogether. It was just there sometimes.
The movie had Akah Nnani play the lead role, Osas Ighodalo, Dorcas Shola-Fapson, Patrick Doyle, Mawuli Gavur.
It starts with Akah’s father preaching while Akah who plays the role of Samuel, a young chap leaves the church to go play.
The father spots him and beats him mercilessly. That was where his despise for home comes in.
Fast forward to him leaving home and heading to the university. We don’t know how he continued to pay school fees though.
He has a room mate who he also performs with from time to time called Rekya. They sleep together most times.
Osas plays the role of Teju and is like a family friend to Samuel.
Teju knows Samuel’s parents and urges him to go see his mom who sends a letter through her but he refuses.
Samuel then meets Teju’s friend, Joy who is a church campus leader and they start a relationship.
How easy is it for a church leader on campus to be in a relationship?
Not only are they in a relationship but they publicly display their love like hugging and kissing.
The relationship goes on for a while until Joy goes for NYSC and cuts communication with Samuel.
Barely four months after, Samuel discovers Joy is married. How? Is it that easy to get married?
This is where it gets interesting. Samuel eventually marries Teju, his family friend.
How did they get married without Samuel’s parents getting involved?
Knowing Teju is a family friend and her parents are also leaders in the church, how did he pull it off?
Anyway, Samuel is a music director in church because of Teju as it was portrayed in the movie.
Then suddenly gets a call from Rekya, who is now a drug pusher.
Meets up with her and they continue where they left off.
Then Rekya tells Samuel how big a business the church is and he could make it big being a pastor.
That was when Samuel decided to become a Man of God himself.
His wife, Teju was excited, but for a spirit filled person, should she be that excited?
Also, the way they chose a name was just so wrong. For someone that claimed to be called, they were guessing the names.
The ending of the Man of God movie was also off. Samuel was arrested after Rekya died while pushing drugs.
Teju left him because he wanted to relocate to Canada without her. She also knew about his other atrocities.
Samuel returns home after many years and have served his prison sentence (we were not told about how long he served).
Either the movie was rushed, the scriptwriter was underpaid or the story was not complete.
To think the movie was almost 2hours and it still had this much inconsistencies.
I would give the movie 2 stars because of the cinematography and some individual performances.
Other than that, I don’t expect this movie to win any awards or accolades.
