Kelechi Iheanacho scores as Leicester City defeat Manchester City in the Community Shield game.
Manchester City went into the game as favorites after securing the purchase of Jack Grealish.
Grealish signed from Aston Villa for £100million which was his release clause.
The game was tight with the first half ending in a draw but Leicester having more of the ball.
Pep Guardiola was without some first team players like Sterling, De Bruyne, Stones, Foden who were on international duties.
Some of them are also injured and could not make the trip to Wembley.
That gave some academy players like Edozie, Palmer and Knight first team opportunities.
The champions were less than impressive as they misplaced passes and looked uncomfortable on the ball.
Kelechi Iheanacho came on in the second half of the game as it was certain it would head to penalties.
City also brought Grealish on to push for a winner late in the game.
Leicester City have only won the Community Shield once in their history and that was in 1971.
Nathan Ake brought down the Nigerian forward in the box as the referee pointed to the spot.
It was heartbreak for City fans as former player Kelechi Iheanacho scores from the spot in the 89th minute.
With 4 minutes additional time, it was too late for a comeback from Manchester City.
The game ended Leicester City 1-0 Manchester City.
After the game, Pep said “Congratulations to Leicester. I am more than satisfied with how we played. Many things were really good, the young players were excellent.
“We got minutes for players so in general, many good things.”
The manager would be looking to put the defeat behind them as the kick of their defence next week.
