Is Liverpool strong enough to win the Premier League?

Chelsea's Reece-James gets a red against Liverpool

The Premier League 2021/2022 season has kicked off and some fans are asking “is Liverpool strong enough”? Especially after the game against Chelsea.

Liverpool have been the biggest competition to Manchester City for 3 seasons now.

In that period, City has won the League twice and Liverpool once. It shows how difficult it is to keep up.

However, the 2021/2022 season seems to have a lot more competition with other teams buying players.

Manchester City bought Jack Grealish for £100m while Chelsea got Lukaku from Inter Milan for £75m plus addons.

Manchester United got Jadon Sancho and snatched Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester City in the last minute.

While Liverpool have only signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for £36m.

The Reds faced their first big test on Saturday evening when they faced Chelsea.

Many expected it to be a tough game and it was, but Chelsea were on the front foot.

The Liverpool players felt jittery at some point as Chelsea stretched the game with Havertz and Mount.

Chelsea scored in the 22nd minute when Havertz converted his header over Allison to lead.

Although Liverpool seemed to have more possession, they just couldn’t break the defence of the Blues.

Liverpool were lucky to level the game in the first half after Reece James handled the ball on the line.

He was given the marching orders as the ref called it deliberate handball as both teams went into the locker room.

Many fans would have expected Liverpool to show more intent and run over Chelsea who are one man down.

However, the Reds had no answers. There was no creativity, there was no bite at all from the forwards.

Mane and Salah were below par even though Salah scored the penalty. They caused Chelsea no danger.

With 66% possession and and 27 shots (7 on target), Liverpool could not score a winner.

This is a huge headache for Klopp who would have expected more from his boys.

Other teams in the league would also be asking is Liverpool strong enough?

If they cannot defeat 10-man Chelsea, maybe they would have lost the game with 11 men.

Chelsea now look like the favorites alongside Manchester City this season.
