The Three Lions are on course to win the Euro 2020 after defeating one of the favorites Germany in the second round of the competition.
Not many people expected England to do so well even though Germany have not been impressive themselves going into this tournament. Goals from Sterling and Kane was enough to do the job as Muller missed a golden opportunity to equalise after Sterling gave away possession in the midfield. With Joachim Low stepping down after this tournament, one would think this is an opportunity for him to go out on a high but it was not to be.
Even though I think England have the chance to win the tournament there are still other contenders.
Spain is still an obstacle to England winning the tournament. The 2010 World Cup winners are no push overs even though they almost lost to Croatia after leading 3-1 only to concede in the dying minutes of the game. Their squad depth is a major advantage.
Italy is another contender and they are not an easy nut to crack either. With Mancini in charge, the Italians have not lost a game since getting knocked out of the World Cup in 2018. They are also an amazing team going forward and always in control of the midfield.
In the end only England have theirselves to blame if they don’t at least get to the semi-finals this time around especially with this crop of players. The likes of Kane, Sterling, Maguire, Stones, Henderson need to show that they can go the extra mile when necessary.
