Nigeria’s bronze medalist at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Ese Brume defends her decision to dedicate her medal to Bishop Oyedepo.
The long jumper was the first Nigerian athlete to win a medal in Tokyo 2020.
She placed 3rd after jumping to a length of 6.97 in her first attempt in the final.
A lot of Nigerians were happy about her feat until she decided to dedicate her award.
Maybe some people were expecting her to dedicate it to them or something.
However, the 25-year-old decided to dedicate it to Bishop Oyedepo.
Bishop Oyedepo is the General Overseer of Living Faith, one of the biggest churches in Nigeria.
Brume responded to those that have criticised her actions for dedicating her medal to a pastor.
She said “everyone has what they believe in”. She also added that he is her spiritual father.
Ese also indicated that she followed his principle on faith and is not bothered by comments.
She also says the medal she wants right now is “marriage-ment medal”.
With her comments it is not hard to see why Ese Brume defends her decision, it shouldn’t be condemned.
After winning bronze in Tokyo, the athlete was also a part of the 4 X 100ms team.
They filled in for those that were suspended and came sixth in the race.
