As the new season draws closer, Chelsea are looking to see Eden Hazard return to the Blues. It is something that might excite the fans, but would it be a good thing for the team?
Chelsea ended the 2020/2021 season on a high winning the European Champions League for the second time in their history after defeating favorites Manchester City.
Thomas Tuchel took over from club legend Frank Lampard and turned the team around instantly. New recruits like Ziyech, Havertz and Werner became integral parts of the team while Rudiger who was dropped by Lampard became a leader on the pitch.
Tuchel’s impact was instant and it lasted till the end of the season which saw Chelsea celebrate at the very end of the season with the big prize.
Now with the former PSG manager looking to solidify the team and imprint his own style, how would a return for Hazard impact the team?
With the likes of Havertz and Ziyech gradually carving a space for themselves in the team, Hazard might draw the team back. He remains an influential player and if Eden Hazard returns, it might shake the dressing room up in a way Tuchel doesn’t like.
Hazard has not really made any impact since he joined Real Madrid so it is understandable for him to want a move away, but a move back to Chelsea would not help the team.
Hazard needs Chelsea more than Chelsea needs him. The Belgian is looking for redemption and Chelsea might be heading for a setback if it decides to give him the chance.
If Eden Hazard returns to Chelsea this season, one of Havertz or Ziyech might have to drop to the bench.
As a sports fan and lover of good football, Hazard easily ranks top tier on my list of quality players but his decline is a pitiful one. His style of play – cutting in to the box from the left to bedazzle defenders and look for a shot or a final pass was what RM saw in him when they bought him. If Hazard reaches full fitness, I believe he can still fit into Tuchel’s plans. It’s going to be a long hard season and squad rotation and team balancing will play a huge part in keeping players from fatigue and wear.
Wouldn’t that stunt the growth of the likes of Havertz and Ziyech who were bought as his replacement and are finally settling down in the team?
